Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 9921 Irvington


May 23, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a shooting that led to the death of a child at 9921 Irvington about 2:20 p.m. on Friday (May 20).

Milton Almanza (H/m, DOB: 11-15-78) is charged with making a firearm accessible to a child resulting in death in Harris County Criminal Court #8.  A photo of Almanza is attached to this news release.

Kenneth Govea, 9, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Deese and Officer N. Wackman reported:

Houston police responded to a shooting call and found the boy deceased inside the business at the above location.  Further investigation revealed the boy was likely playing with a gun just prior to his death.

Almanza, the owner of the weapon, was arrested and charged.
