HPD Mentors and Houston Astros Team Up for At-Risk Youth

May 25, 2011 - Houston police supervisors and officers today (May 25) accompanied Houston Independent School District (HISD) students on a "field trip" to Minute Maid Park to show them the picture of success.

HPD officers serve as mentors to at-risk youth within HISD.  For the second year, HPD has coordinated with the Houston Astros organization to give students a chance to get an inside look at the Astros, learn about the importance of education and the goals needed to be successful.

The mentoring program has helped students improve their grades, reduce misconduct, increase their TAKS pass rates and improve their relationship with HPD.
