Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 10648 Harwin


May 29, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 10648 Harwin about 2:05 a.m. on Saturday (May 28).

The suspect, Nefi Cruz (H/m, DOB: 5-9-89), is charged with accident involving injury and intoxication manslaughter in the 176th State District Court.  A photo of suspect Cruz is attached to this news release.

The male victim, Rodrigo Caballero Cisneros, 30, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Shaw and Officer R. Klementich reported:

According to several witnesses, Mr. Cisneros was driving a black Ford Mustang eastbound on Harwin.  The suspect, Cruz, was driving a silver Volkswagen Golf southbound on the West Sam Houston Parkway and ran a red light at the intersection of Harwin.  The Volkswagen then struck the Ford, causing it to spin and hit the concrete median on the south side of Harwin.  Cisneros died at the scene.  Cruz then fled the scene on foot, but was taken into custody by HPD patrol officers a short distance away.
