Houston Police Department
Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 9600 Bissonnet

November 28, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 14200 block of Bissonnet about 1:35 a.m. on Friday (Nov. 25).

The male victim,19, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity and cause of death are pending autopsy by the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner's Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Thomas and Officer R. Klementich reported:

HPD Westside Patrol Officer E. Richardson observed the driver of a blue Chevrolet Avalanche spinning his tires at the intersection of Bissonnet and Leawood.  Officer Richardson activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop.  However, the driver fled the scene westbound on Bissonnet, driving at a high rate of speed.  When the driver reached Highway 6 and Bissonnet, he made a U-turn, going eastbound on Bissonnet.  A short distance later, the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck several trees in the median.  The driver was then ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Because the officer was in pursuit of the driver when the traffic accident occurred, this incident is being investigated as an in-custody death.  As is customary in such cases, the incident is also being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
