September 8, 2011 - The Houston Police Department invites the public to several events commemorating the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th.

    City Hall Ceremony

    • At noon on Friday (Sept. 9), Mayor Annise Parker and HPD Chief Charles A. McClelland, Jr. will join Houston Fire Department Chief Terry Garrison in a ceremony at Hermann Square at City Hall.  Mayor Parker will lead citizens in a patriotic tribute to those who lost their lives that fateful day.  For more information, visit: https://www.houstontx.gov/specialevents/911tenthanniversary

    Houston Remembers/Special Screening of “Rebirth”

    • Also on Friday (Sept. 9) at 7 p.m., HPD Chief McClelland and the HPD Honor Guard will join members of the Houston Fire Department and city leaders in a special memorial to those who died in the September 11th attacks.  Following the ceremony, the Dignity Memorial Network (SCI) will show an outdoor premiere of “REBIRTH,” an award-winning documentary following the transformation of five people, over the course of seven years, whose lives were forever altered that fateful day.  Families are welcome to the free showing; however, given the subject nature, the film may not be appropriate for children under 12.  A remembrance wall will also be on display.  For more information, visit:  www.dignitymemorial.com/911

    9-11 Heroes Run

    • At 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 11), HPD Chief McClelland will take part in pre-event ceremonies at Ellington Airport.  At 9:03 a.m., more than 650 participants will pound the pavement as part of a 5K run/walk honoring the fallen.  Proceeds will support the Travis Manion and Assist the Officer Houston foundations.  There is a $25 registration fee, payable at the event.  For more information, visit: www.911heroesrun.com

Both the Houston Texans and the Houston Astros are also honoring HPD and first responders.

At noon on Sunday (Sept. 11), during pre-game ceremonies at Reliant Stadium, the Texans will recognize the contributions of HPD, other first responders and the United States military to keeping Houstonians safe.  For more information, visit: https://www.houstontexans.com/gameday/pregame-activities.html

About 7 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 12), HPD Lieutenant Harry Zamora will be among the first responders and military representatives to throw out the first pitch at the Astros “Heroes Night,” just before the start of the Astros vs. Phillies game.  Lt.
