HPD Urges Motorists "Let the Red and Blue Go Through"

September 16, 2011 - The Houston Police Department, in partnership with the Houston Fire Department, has produced a 30-second public service announcement that urges motorists to move over when emergency vehicles are approaching.

This quick message instructs motorists when they see an emergency vehicle with lights activated to move to the right, slow down and let the emergency vehicle pass.  Motorists are also cautioned to stay 500 feet back from any emergency vehicle.

This is an important issue.  When officers and firefighters are responding to an emergency, seconds count. HPD wants to be able to respond as quickly and safely as possible. This can be done when drivers remember to move over and let the red and blue go through.
