The identity of the male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant D. Hayes and Officer L. Carbollo reported:

Undercover HPD narcotics officers were standing on the parking lot behind the Luby's restaurant at the above location and meeting to discuss an earlier operation when they were suddenly approached by the male suspect with a bandana covering his face and armed with a gun. The suspect pointed the gun at the officers and demanded money from them. Two officers, fearing for their safety, discharged their duty weapons and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. The officers were not hit. Paramedics pronounced the suspect deceased.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shootings involving injury in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
