Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 6100 South Loop East

April 19, 2012 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 6100 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610 East) service road about 6 p.m. on Wednesday (April 18).


Kevin Aviles (H/m, DOB: 4-19-87) faces a pending charge of intoxication manslaughter. No photo of Aviles is available at this time.

The identity of the deceased male victim, 57, of Houston, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer B. Clark reported:

Aviles was driving a dark green Ford Explorer eastbound on the South Loop service road at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light at South Wayside and struck a gray Chevrolet Malibu. Aviles' SUV then struck a second vehicle, a tan pickup truck, killing its driver.

The female passengers in the Malibu were not injured. Aviles was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
