April 30, 2012 - The fatal shooting of a juvenile male at 2038 Laverne about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (April 29) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The juvenile, 11, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Williams, Senior Police Officer M. Khan and Officer J. Dominguez reported:

A group of four juvenile males was visiting a juvenile female acquaintance who lives at the above location. At some point, the group went into a closet in the apartment, which is leased by the female's uncle, to look for money to get some food. While in the closet, the kids found a handgun. As one of the juveniles was handling the gun, it discharged and the victim was struck. He was then taken by HFD paramedics to the hospital.

The juvenile suspect was questioned and released at the scene.
