Investigation into Infant's Death at 2322 Hutton

August 17, 2012 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of an infant at 2322 Hutton about 8:25 a.m. on Thursday (Aug. 16).


The baby, Ernest Darrett, 16 days old, of the above address, was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer J. Sosa reported:

Baby Ernest was left in the care of his aunt Wednesday night (Aug. 15). The aunt cared for and fed baby Ernest throughout the night. He was last seen alive about 5 a.m. on Thursday, when he fell asleep between his aunt and her fiance. The fiance awoke a few hours later to find baby Ernest unresponsive and not breathing. The family immediately called 911 while the aunt performed CPR. Responding HFD paramedics continued performing CPR and transported baby Ernest to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine baby Ernest's cause of death.
