Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man's Death at 1710 Welch

January 23, 2012 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the beating death of a man found at 1710 Welch about 10:30 a.m. last Friday (Jan. 20).

The suspect, Reginald Eaglin (b/m, DOB: 11-12-58), is charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Scott Ellis Childress, 46, of the above address.  Mr. Childress suffered head trauma and died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant O. Chandler and Senior Police Officer J. Johnston reported:

Suspect Eaglin stated he and Mr. Childress got into an argument when Childress picked up a pipe wrench and attempted to assault him with it.  Eaglin alleges the two struggled over the weapon and he assaulted Childress with it in self defense.

Following further investigation, Eaglin was taken into custody and a charge of murder was filed against him.
