Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 5800 Westheimer

July 30, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5800 block of Westheimer about 2:05 a.m. on Saturday (July 28).

The victim, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer D. Phan reported:

According to witnesses, the victim was operating a white Triumph Speed motorcycle westbound on Westheimer at a high rate of speed.  The driver of a black Toyota Camry attempted to make a right turn from Augusta Street onto Westheimer and was struck by the motorcycle.  Witnesses reported the victim, along with the drivers of a  black Dodge and another black vehicle were racing on Westheimer.  After the victim struck the Toyota, the other two vehicles fled the scene. 

The investigation is continuing.
