Houston Police Department
Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 10100 Eastex Freeway

July 31, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 10100 block of the Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 3 p.m. Monday (July 30).

The victim, Trace Williams, 5, of Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Senior Police Officer J. Ortiz reported:

A pewter Chevrolet Suburban was traveling northbound on the Eastex Freeway when the back right tire suffered a blowout, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.  The vehicle then swerved to the left, struck a center concrete divider, rode up the barrier and struck a light pole.  The impact with the light pole caused the Suburban to roll over and slide about 100 feet.  The victim, a passenger in the rear of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Three other passengers and the driver were all transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
