Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 9900 Richmond

March 5, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9900 block of Richmond about 4:30 p.m. last Friday (March 2).

The identity of the male victim, of Houston, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant B. Rogers and Officer I. Sampson reported:

The driver of a silver Acura TL was westbound in the 9900 block of Richmond when he attempted to go around a black Chevrolet pickup truck.  As the male driver, 70, went around the Chevrolet, the Acura clipped the front of the truck, and, according to witnesses, began speeding away, westbound on Richmond.  A short distance later, the driver of the Acura then lost control of his vehicle and struck a green BMW 325i, at the entrance of an apartment complex.  The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene.  An adult female passenger and a five-year-old female passenger in the BMW were both taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Acura was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

It does not appear that intoxication played a role in the accident.  The investigation is continuing.
