Suspect Wounded After Shooting Two Females

May 17, 2012 - Charges are pending against a suspect who shot two females before being wounded by a Houston police officer at 9200 North Wayside about 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday (May 16).

The wounded suspect, Jerome Fisher Pleasant (b/m, DOB: 12-18-62), faces charges of attempted capital murder and aggravated assault of a police officer.  He remains in stable condition at Ben Taub General Hospital.  Pleasant is accused in the shootings of Sheera Stevenson, 31, and her 13-year-old daughter.  Both females are in stable condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The officer who discharged his weapon, S. Jordan of the Northeast Patrol Division, was not injured.  Officer Jordan was sworn in as an HPD officer in April 2008.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Blain and Officer J. Johnston reported:

Police officers were called to a shooting in the 8100 block of Homewood and learned a suspect (Pleasant) shot his girlfriend and her daughter inside their residence.  Pleasant fled the location on foot.  After a description of the suspect was broadcasted to police units in the area, Pleasant was located and fled on foot from Officer Jordan.  During the foot pursuit, Pleasant refused all verbal commands and pointed his gun at Officer Jordan and another officer.  While in the 9200 block of North Wayside, Pleasant again pointed the weapon at an officer.  Fearing for that officer's safety, Officer Jordan discharged his duty weapon and struck Pleasant.  Paramedics arrived and transported Pleasant to the hospital.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
