Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 6951 Bellfort

May 18, 2012 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman at 6951 Bellfort about 10 p.m. on Thursday (May 17).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales and Senior Police Officer X. Avila reported: 

The victim was working at the Family Dollar store at the above location when two armed male suspects entered the store making demands.  One of two customers inside the store attempted to leave and noticed the suspects had locked the door.  The male customer, who has a concealed handgun license, pulled out his weapon and exchanged gunfire with the suspects.  During the exchange of gunfire, the female victim was struck and killed.  The suspects, described only as black males, then fled the scene in the customer's rented vehicle, a 2012 four-door Toyota Camry with Louisiana license plates N238302. 

At this time, it has not been determined whose gunfire struck the female.
