Houston Police Department
Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 8500 Kempwood

May 31, 2012 -Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 8500 Kempwood about 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday (May 30).

The male victim, 21, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer P. Pham reported:

The victim was driving a white Nissan Altima eastbound in the 8500 block of Kempwood.  An HFD ambulance and an HFD pumper truck were parked in front of a residence at 8507 Kempwood on a call for service.  An HFD paramedic, who was inside the ambulance, stepped out of the back and saw the Nissan coming toward him at a high rate of speed.  The paramedic quickly jumped back inside the ambulance as the Nissan struck the rear of the emergency vehicle.  The driver of the Nissan was then taken to the hospital.

Further investigation determined there was another vehicle possibly behind the Nissan, occupied by two males who knew the victim.  They stopped and attempted to help, but left the scene before officers arrived.

The investigation is continuing.
