Houston Police Department
Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 12000 South Main

October 22, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 12000 South Main about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 21).

The male victim, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Shaw and Officer E. Rubio reported:

The victim was walking or standing in a southbound lane at the above address when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. The driver of that vehicle then fled the scene. A short time later, the driver of a second vehicle struck the victim as he was lying in the roadway. Because that stretch of road is dimly lit, the driver told police he did not know what he had struck. As a result, he parked his now-disabled vehicle at a nearby gas station parking lot and walked back to the scene where he discovered the victim. The driver then immediately called police. He was interviewed and found not to be impaired. No charges are expected against the second driver.

The driver who fled the scene in the first striking vehicle remains at large. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Detail at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
