Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 13300 East Freeway

October 29, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 13300 block of the East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 11:40 p.m. last Friday (Oct. 26).

The identity of the female victim, 19, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer K. Hines reported:
The driver of a black GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling westbound on the East Freeway at a high rate of speed and, according to witnesses, was racing with another vehicle. The suspect then ran a red light at the intersection of Uvalde and struck a black Nissan Titan pickup truck traveling northbound on Uvalde. The Titan was then pushed into the southbound lanes of traffic and struck a black Ford Focus, traveling southbound on Uvalde. The GMC then struck a light pole and several persons in the GMC were ejected from the vehicle. The female victim, a passenger in the back seat of the GMC, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several adult and juvenile passengers were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC was transported to the hospital with major, non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
