UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Incident at 4527 Lomitas

September 24, 2012 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an incident in which a Houston police officer discharged his duty weapon at 4527 Lomitas about 2:20 a.m. on Sept. 15.

The suspect, Shane Lawrence Parrish (w/m, DOB: 12-3-91), is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant in the 180th State District Court.  A photo of suspect Parrish is attached to this news release.

Officer J. Seay, who discharged his duty weapon, received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.  Officer Seay is assigned to the South Central Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in November 2006.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Whitehead and Senior Police Officer B. Nabors reported:

Two HPD officers were working an extra job as security officers at a restaurant at the above address when they observed a disturbance inside the business and asked both parties to leave the club.  The fight then escalated in the back parking lot.  Officers once again separated both parties and continued to clear the parking lot.  The officers then heard a person in a red/maroon car yell a verbal threat to life.  Officer Seay approached the maroon vehicle and attempted to get the driver to exit the vehicle.  After a brief physical struggle, the suspects fled the scene at a high rate of speed, subsequently causing Officer Seay to fear for his safety and discharge his duty weapon.  The suspects fled the scene.

Hours later, both suspects were located at two area hospitals in stable condition and were treated for their injuries.  The wanted vehicle was also recovered.

Further investigation identified Parrish as the suspect in this case and, on Friday (Sept. 21), he was taken into custody.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
