Houston Police Department
Investigation into Shooting at 8117 Bonner

April 29, 2013 - The apparent accidental shooting of a juvenile male at 8117 Bonner about 11:35 a.m. on Sunday (April 28) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The victim, 14, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Tolls and Senior Police Officer T. Tyler reported:

Two juvenile step brothers, 14 and 15 years old, were playing with a gun they found several weeks ago. When the 15 year-old handed the gun to his younger step brother, his finger was still on the trigger. When the step brother took the weapon, the trigger was accidentally pulled. The gun discharged and the younger step brother was struck in the head. He was then taken to the hospital.

The uninjured step brother initially told HPD patrol officers and investigators a man dressed in all black had entered the residence, shot his brother and then fled the scene. The step brother later admitted to the accidental shooting and told police he threw the gun in a nearby body of water. An initial search by the HPD Dive Team was unsuccessful. However, the search for the weapon will continue during daylight hours.

The uninjured step brother was questioned and released to family members.
