Update: Suspect Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at Westheimer and Eldridge Parkway

August 7, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at Westheimer and Eldridge Parkway about 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 6).

The suspect, Dalia Iris Alfaro (H/f, DOB: 8-8-94), is charged with murder and intoxication manslaughter in the 176th State District Court. A photo of Alfaro is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased male victim, 29, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Hall and Senior Police Officer S. Boone reported:

An HPD patrol officer observed a female (Alfaro) driving a silver Dodge pickup truck at a high rate of speed on Westheimer near Gessner. As the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect fled westbound on Westheimer with the officer pursuing. The suspect's vehicle then struck another vehicle at the intersection of Kirkwood and Westheimer and continued without stopping. The suspect then ran the red light at the intersection of Eldridge Parkway, struck a green Mazda 3 and then struck the driver's side of a gray Chevrolet Impala. The suspect's vehicle then veered to the left and struck a cement mixer truck head-on.

The driver of the Impala died at the scene. The suspect was treated at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for minor injuries and then taken to jail. The driver of the Mazda was not injured.
