February 25, 2012 - The fatal shooting of a man at 6233 Gulton about 5:20 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 24) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the deceased male, 25, of Houston, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The shooter, 47, was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Meeler and Senior Police Officer J. Villareal reported:

A security guard was patrolling the parking lot of the Westward Square Apartments at the above address when he heard several gun shots. The guard got out of his vehicle to investigate and saw a male walking towards him with a gun. He identified himself as a security guard and told the male to drop the weapon. The male ignored the commands and raised the gun towards the security guard. Fearing for his life, the security guard discharged his weapon striking the male one time. The male was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
