Investigation into Child's Death at 11201 Olympia #2802

January 31, 2012 -Houston police are investigating the apparent accidental drowning of a child at 11201 Olympia #2802 about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 30). 

The female child, 5, of the above address, was transported to West Houston Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Homicide Division Officers C. Hassig and L. Carballo reported: 

The victim, who lives at the above address with family, returned home from school with her father's live-in girlfriend and siblings.  The child then went to take a bath and drew water by herself as she was taught.  After several minutes, the live-in girlfriend went to check on the child and found her under water.  CPR was immediately performed on the child and HFD paramedics were called to the scene.  The child was taken to the hospital where she died. 

The investigation is continuing.
