Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at Northwest Freeway and North Gessner

July 1, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at the Northwest Freeway (U. S. Highway 290) and North Gessner service road about 3 a.m. last Saturday (June 29).  

The suspect, Guadalupe Armando Rodriguez-Rivera (H/m, DOB: 12-12-88), is charged with intoxication manslaughter and accident involving injury in the 248th State District Court.  A photo of Rodriguez-Rivera is attached to this news release.   

The male victim, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer E. Morado reported:  

Rodriguez-Rivera was driving a green Chevrolet Suburban southbound on North Gessner when he ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 290.  The Suburban then struck a red Cadillac Escalade, driven by the victim, traveling northbound on North Gessner and attempting to make a left turn onto the Highway 290 service road.  The victim was ejected and died at the scene.  Rodriguez-Rivera fled the scene on foot  but was later found by a wrecker driver.  He was then detained by a Harris County  Sheriff's deputy and brought back to the accident scene.  Rodriguez-Rivera was then taken into custody by HPD patrol officers.
