Armed Suspect Charged in Shooting Incident at 12710 Brant Rock

June 3, 2013 - Charges have been filed against an armed suspect wounded by a Houston police officer at 12710 Brant Rock about 12:50 p.m. last Friday (May 31).

The suspect, Kevin Conard Jones (b/m, DOB: 2-10-92) is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant in the 228th State District Court.  Jones suffered more than one gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical, but stable condition.  A photo of suspect Jones is not available at this time.

Officer R. Mason, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident.  Officer Mason, sworn in as an officer in September 2009, is assigned to the Westside Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Chandler and Officer D. Fontenot reported:

Officers assigned to the Westside Patrol Tactical Operations Unit attempted to serve a felony warrant on suspect Jones at the above address.   After knocking several times in an attempt to locate Jones, officers heard the doorknob turn and the door opened quickly from the inside.  Jones then moved forward through the doorway, holding a pistol in his right hand.  He then chambered a round and raised the pistol toward officers.  Fearing for his life and that of his fellow officers, Officer Mason discharged his duty weapon several times, striking Jones.  Jones was immediately taken into custody and transported to the hospital.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
