Suspect Arrested in 1990 Murder Case

June 20, 2013 - A suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 7111 Hillcroft 23 years ago is now in custody.

The suspect, Rosa San Miguel Aguilar (H/f, DOB: 12-27-49), was charged with murder in the 208th State District Court the day of the murder. She is accused in the killing of Gregorio Cardoza, 36, of the above address, who died at the scene. A photo of Aguilar is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers R. Cervantes and M. Kral reported:

Mr. Cardoza was found deceased inside his residence about 9:50 a.m. on February 23, 1990. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A preliminary investigation identified his live-in girlfriend, Aguilar, as the suspect in this case. Shortly after the murder, Aguilar fled to Peru.
On December 12, 2012, Aguilar was taken into custody in Peru by members of the United States Marshal's Office. Aguilar was returned to Houston on Wednesday (June 19) and admitted to HPD homicide investigators her role in Cardoza's death.
