Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 2400 Eastex Freeway

May 24, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 2400 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) at Quitman about 3:35 p.m. on Thursday (May 24).

The suspect, Shiquinta Franklin (b/f, DOB: 3/30/92) is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court.  A photo of suspect Franklin is attached to this news release. 

The identity of the female victim, 43, of Houston, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer O. Bledsoe reported:

The Humble Police Department was engaged in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect after receiving information that Franklin was previously involved a theft case.  Franklin, driving a red Dodge Avenger, fled into Houston city limits, traveling southbound on the Eastex Freeway.  She then exited the freeway and ran a red light at the intersection of the Eastex Freeway service road and Quitman.  Franklin then struck a maroon Chevrolet Malibu driven by the victim.  The impact caused the Malibu to rollover.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  Three male passengers, 5, 7, and 15 years of age, were all transported to area hospitals in serious condition.  Franklin and two female passengers were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
