3rd Update: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at 8510 Almeda Genoa

October 14, 2013 - A second suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a woman at 8510 Almeda Genoa about 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 30 has been arrested.

The suspect, William Kelly Rawlings (w/m, DOB: 1-30-89), was arrested by Pasadena police officers responding to a weapons disturbance call on Saturday (Oct. 12). He and suspect Obed Joseph Rodriguez (H/m, DOB: 5-8-93) are charged with capital murder in the 176th State District Court. They are accused in the killing of Yolanda Yepez Lara, 37, of Pasadena.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. French and Officers D. Fontenot, E. Zugner and J. Saldana reported:

Two male suspects entered the Monroe Game Room at the above address after the security guard opened the door to the business. Both suspects immediately produced pistols, forced the security guard to the ground and began to rob the business. They ordered customers and employees to the ground. During the robbery, one of the suspects fatally shot Ms. Lara, an employee of the game room. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Further investigation identified Rodriguez as the suspect who shot Lara. On Sept. 3, he was taken into custody by the HPD Westside Patrol Division Tactical Unit and members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. Suspect Rawlings was later identified as the second suspect in this incident and he was subsequently taken into custody without incident on Saturday (Oct. 12).
