Suspect Stanley Berniard

Senior Police Officer M. Kral of the HPD Homicide Division Cold Case Unit reported:

Patrol officers on a traffic stop heard multiple gunshots near a restaurant at 8607 Southwest Freeway. Officers found Mr. Broussard lying on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Several witnesses were located and told investigators that Broussard and his friends were at the Blue Houston Nightclub at 8412 South Gessner earlier in the evening. The restaurant, an IHOP, is located in a strip center near the nightclub. Broussard waited at the club with one of his friends who had lost his keys there. While Broussard was using a cell phone, two unknown black male suspects approached him and shot him multiple times. HPD homicide investigators initiated an investigation into the incident and, at that time, exhausted all possible leads.

In July 2013, the case was reviewed and further investigation determined Berniard was in the Orleans Parish Jail for his involvement in a murder in New Orleans, Louisiana. Witness statements positively identified Berniard as the shooter in this 2006 case and he was subsequently charged. A second suspect remains unidentified and at large.

The other suspect was about 22 years old, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball cap, red polo shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information on the identity of the second wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
