Investigation into Incident at 6900 East Freeway

October 29, 2013 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a man following an incident in which officers were attempting to detain him at 6900 East Freeway about 4 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 28).

The male, Hector Elizondo (H/m, DOB: 7-24-66), was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead today.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Biggs and Senior Police Officer R. Bolton reported:

Officers from the Northeast Patrol Division responded to calls from citizens regarding a male acting erractically at the above address. Officers approached the male in an attempt to detain and investigate his actions. However, the male became agitated and combative with the responding officers. Officers were able to restrain the man, but a short time later he appeared to stop breathing. Officers on the scene performed C.P.R. on the man until E.M.S. personnel arrived. The male was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

As is customary in the death of an individual in an incident involving HPD officers, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
