Fatal Traffic Accident at 1800 Lorraine

April 11, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1800 Lorraine about 11:50 a.m. today.

The identity of the deceased juvenile male victim, 6, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer O. Bledsoe reported:

A white Chevrolet van was traveling eastbound in the 1800 block of Lorraine when the driver ran a red light and turned left (northbound) onto Elysian, a one way street. The victim and two adult females were crossing the street, failing to yield to traffic, when they were struck by the van. The victim was transported to Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced dead. One of the females (the child's mother), 31, was also transported to LBJ Hospital. The other female pedestrian was treated at the scene. The driver of the van did not show any signs of intoxication at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
