Investigation into Male's Death at 2155 North MacGregor Way

April 16, 2014 - The death of a man following an incident at 2155 North MacGregor Way about 6 a.m. on Tuesday (April 15) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The deceased male, Derek Vincent Brown, 42, of Porter, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers J. Sosa and X. Avila reported:

Mr. Brown and another male were involved in an accident near the 5000 block of the South Freeway (South State Highway 288). Brown fled the scene of the accident and the male, with his elderly father as a passenger, followed him to a parking lot at 2155 North MacGregor Way. As the male attempted to exchange information with Brown, both men got into a physical fight with Brown assaulting the male and his elderly father. The male then attempted to defend his father and continued to struggle with Brown. As the male tried to subdue him, Brown lost consciousness.

A witness called 9-1-1 and HPD patrol officers, as well as HFD paramedics responded to the scene. Brown was transported to the hospital where he died. The elderly male was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
