Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 700 Allen Genoa

August 4, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 700 Allen Genoa about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday (August 2).

The suspect, Maria Virginia Cobos (H/f, 27), was charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 184th State District Court. A photo of Cobos is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 47, is pending identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer M. Rios reported:

The victim was driving a green Honda and was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Allen Genoa and Gober Street. Cobos, driving a silver Dodge Charger, was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the Honda from behind. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger in the Honda was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Cobos was arrested at the scene and determined to be intoxicated.
