2nd Update: Suspect Charged in Kidnapping/Auto Theft Incident at 8601 West Bellfort

August 29, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an auto theft and kidnapping of five children at 8601 West Bellfort about 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday (August 27).
The suspect, Brenton Alex Simmons (b/m, 24), is charged with five counts of kidnapping in the 230th State District Court. A photo of Simmons is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Officers R. Ridel and R. Klementich reported:

A female driver for a private transportation service was taking eight children home from various schools and stopped at the Jack and the Box restaurant at the above address to feed the children. The driver left the vehicle (a 2009 GMC Acadia) running in the parking lot of the restaurant and went inside to purchase food. While inside the restaurant, Simmons got into the SUV and drove off with five children remaining inside the vehicle.

With assistance from the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constables, investigators located Simmons, the vehicle and the children (unharmed) in Fort Bend County about three hours later.
