Houston Police Department
Investigation into incident at 13333 Northborough Drive

December 18, 2014 - Houston police are investigating the wounding of an armed suspect at 13333 Northborough Drive about 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 17).

The male suspect, Brian Stansbury, 32, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

The officer who discharged his duty weapon, L. Castillo, was not injured. Officer Castillo, assigned to the North Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in January 2009.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick, Senior Police Officer T. Andrade and Officers M. Dykens and D. Stark reported:

Officers were dispatched to a suicide in-progress/disturbance with a weapon call to the Canfield Lakes Apartment complex at the above address. Reports stated the male suspect was armed with a pistol. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the suspect, who continuously refused to comply with verbal commands and instructions. When the suspect reached for his waistband abruptly, Officer Castillo, knowing the suspect had a pistol and fearing for his life and his partner's life, discharged his duty weapon one time, striking the suspect. Paramedics transported the suspect to the hospital. Officers recovered a pistol in the suspect's possession.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits of Houston, this incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
