Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 700 Pierce and Milam

January 02, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 700 Pierce and Milam about 1 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 1).  

The suspect, Diego Baldemar Islas (H/m, DOB: 2-27-92), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 339th State District Court.  A photo of suspect Islas is attached to this news release.  

The victim, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer T. Van reported:  

According to witnesses, Islas was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastbound on Pierce and ran the red light at the intersection of Milam.  The Chevrolet then struck a white Mercedes C230.  The rear passenger in the Mercedes died at the scene.  The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger in the Chevrolet were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with minor injuries and are expected to survive.  Islas found to be intoxicated and subsequently charged.
