Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 11300 Gulf Freeway

June 13, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 11300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 1:10 a.m. today.

The suspect, Jose A. Ortega Vasquez (H/m, 28), is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in the 230th State District Court. He remains hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries. A photo of Vasquez is not available at this time.

The two male victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer A. Mata reported:

Vasquez was driving a silver Oldsmobile Alero northbound on the Gulf Freeway and failed to stay in a single lane. The vehicle then struck a concrete light fixture. The two passengers in the Oldsmobile died at the scene. Vasquez was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, determined to be intoxicated and subsequently charged.
