Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 12800 Gotham

March 3, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 12800 Gotham about 2:15 p.m. last Saturday (March 1).  

>The suspect, Jeremiah James Pipkins (b/m, 17), is charged with manslaughter in the 177th State District Court.  A photo of Pipkins is attached to this news release.

The victim, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and Officer I. Duplechain reported:

The victim, Pipkins and two other persons were riding around in a car when they stopped at the above address.  Pipkins, a rear seat passenger, pulled out a pistol, unloaded it and showed it to the others.  The weapon was passed around and then returned to Pipkins.  He was in the process of reloading the magazine when the gun went off and the bullet went through the seat, striking the victim in the back.  

Pipkins took the gun as he and the other rear seat passenger fled the scene on foot.  The driver stayed with the victim and called for help.  Pipkins and the other passenger were later located by police and taken into custody.  Pipkins admitted to his involvement in the shooting.  The weapon was also recovered.
