March 10, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man at 7170 Parker about 8:25 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2013.

The suspect, Karen Kiriago (b/f, 49), is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.  She is accused in the killing of Van Rogers, 54, of the above address, who was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  A photo of Kiriago is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. French and Senior Police Officer M. Stahlin reported:

The suspect, Kiriago, initially told investigators she was preparing dinner when Mr. Rogers stepped outside his apartment at the above address with a friend.  She said Rogers returned to his apartment a short time later with a stab wound to the chest.  HFD paramedics responded to the scene and transported him to the hospital, where he died.

Further investigation identified Kiriago, Rogers' common-law wife, as the suspect in this case and determined she had fled the Houston area.  She was arrested in Henderson, Texas last Thursday (March 6) and is currently awaiting extradition back to Harris County.
