Houston Police Department
Armed Suspect Fatally Shot at 11703 Kirkmeadow

October 2, 2014 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed suspect at 11703 Kirkmeadow about 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 1).

The identity of the suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Three Pearland Police Department officers and one Houston police officer discharged their weapons. None of the officers was injured. The HPD employee, Senior Police Officer J. Anderson, assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in July 1993.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Meeler and Officers D. Fontenot and L. Bailey reported:

Officers in Liverpool, Texas, responded to an aggravated assault call in their area. Officers arrived and observed the suspect fleeing the location in a motor vehicle. Liverpool officers pursued the vehicle into Pearland, where Pearland officers joined the pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect fired shots at the officers. Once the vehicle pursuit proceeded into Houston, HPD officers responded and assisted. The suspect pulled into a residential neighborhood and parked in the driveway of a residence at 11703 Kirkmeadow.

As HPD and Pearland officers arrived at the address, the suspect exited his vehicle and pointed a shotgun toward the officers. The officers, fearing for their lives, discharged their weapons. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
