Investigation into Incident at 5700 Reed Road

April 23, 2015 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an HPD patrol vehicle struck a bicyclist at 5700 Reed Road about 4:25 a.m. today (April 23).

The male bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officer R. Scott, who was involved in the accident, suffered minor injures.  He was sworn in as a HPD officer in December 2011 and is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer R. Veal reported:

The officer was traveling westbound on Reed Road when he entered the intersection at Martin Luther King Boulevard and struck a bicyclist.  The officer called for EMS crews, however the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is customary in such incidents, this case is being investigated by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
