Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Stabbing at 3031 Sumpter Street

February 4, 2015 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man and the wounding of a woman at 3031 Sumpter Street #17 about 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 3).

The suspect, Nathaniel Davis (b/m, 28) is charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 228th State District Court. A photo of Davis is not available at this time, pending further investigation.

The victim, Searrier Smith, 24, of Houston, was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The second victim, Porsha Daniels, 25, was also transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants H. Chavez and M. Dillingham reported:

The two victims were inside an apartment at the above address when the suspect began banging on the door demanding he be let inside. When neither Mr. Smith nor Ms. Daniels opened the door, the suspect broke the front window and entered the apartment.

An apartment maintenance man was notified by a resident that a male had just broken into the apartment. Upon investigating, the maintenance man observed the broken window and heard a woman screaming for help. He immediately called 911 and remained on the scene until emergency crews arrived. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of HPD patrol officers.

Further investigation led to the identification of Davis, the former boyfriend of Daniels, as a suspect in this case and he was subsequently arrested and charged.
