Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 7000 Eastex Freeway

January 1, 2015 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 7000 Eastex Freeway (U. S. Highway 59 North) about 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday (December 31).  

The two male victims were pronounced dead at the scene.  Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Vanderbull and Officer T. White reported:  

The driver of a silver Acura TL was traveling southbound on the Eastex Freeway when, for unknown reasons, he veered from the right side of the freeway across all lanes of traffic and struck an HPD patrol vehicle parked on the left shoulder.  The Acura then left the roadway, went over the retaining wall, and fell to the ground below.  The male driver and male front seat passenger died at the scene.  A male rear seat passenger, 19, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in an unknown condition.  The HPD officer in the patrol vehicle was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was treated and released.    

The investigation is continuing.
