Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 811 Eastlake Street

January 2, 2015 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 811 Eastlake Street about 12:10 a.m. on Thursday (January 1).  

The victim, Javier Suarez Rivera, 43, of the above address, was pronounced dead at the scene.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Tolls and Senior Police Officer R. Cervantes reported:  

Mr. Rivera and family members had gathered to celebrate New Year's eve at their residence at the above address.  At midnight, Rivera and his wife stepped outside and walked to the edge of the driveway to watch nearby fireworks.  No one in the immediate area was launching fireworks.  As he stood next to his wife, Rivera suddenly fell to the ground.  Neighbors called 9-1-1 and attempted to provide medical assistance to Rivera.  HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Rivera deceased.  

At this time, investigators believe Rivera was the victim of celebratory gunfire.
