Investigation into Incident at 12810 Gulf Freeway

January 20, 2015 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed suspect at 12810 Gulf Freeway about 12:50 a.m. last Friday (Jan. 16).|

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The officer who discharged his duty weapon, W. Blevins, was not injured.  Officer Blevins was sworn in as an officer in June 2009.

HPD Homicide Division Officers A. Vinogradov, M. Dykens and D. Stark reported:

Officer Blevins was off-duty and in uniform, working an approved extra job at the above address when he confronted a suspect armed with a gun outside of the location.  The officer repeatedly told the suspect to drop the weapon, but the suspect refused.  The officer, fearing for his safety and the safety of other civilians nearby, discharged his weapon and struck the suspect.  The male was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

As is customary when an officer discharges a weapon resulting in injury in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
