Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic Accident at 5000 South Braeswood

January 27, 2015 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 5000 South Braeswood about 1:55 a.m. today (Jan. 27).

The suspect, David Daniel Rodriguez (H/m, 23), is facing a charge of felony murder.  

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer P. Pham reported:

Rodriguez was driving a white Mercedes-Benz E-Class southbound on South Braeswood at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.  The vehicle then struck several trash cans and other items in a yard before striking a tree.  Shortly after striking the tree, the vehicle caught fire.  Rodriguez, who exited or was ejected from the vehicle during the accident, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening injures.  After the flames were extinguished, the male victim was discovered in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was pronounced dead. 

The investigation is continuing.
