Houston Digital Design Challenge

The City of Houston is launching the first-ever Digital Design Challenge. Mayor Turner is calling on innovative Houstonians to provide a vision for the City’s digital presence that defines the City of Houston.

A panel of judges will select three finalists to receive awards of $1,000 each.

The submission deadline is November 5, 2017.

Details:

Over one million people visit the City of Houston’s website every month. We'd like to begin the process of rethinking our digital presence by asking the community for ideas.

Your submission should contain the following elements:

  • A vision for the City of Houston digital presence (up to 500 words)
  • A vision for the City of Houston website user experience (up to 500 words)
  • Any supporting materials (such as a homepage wireframe or presentation deck)

Rules:

  • You can work alone or in teams. At least one member of your team must reside in the Houston region, and you must designate a team lead.
  • We must receive your work submitted through this website by 11:59PM CT on November 5, 2017.
  • All submissions must be an original work of authorship and you (and/or your team) must own the exclusive copyright to the work submitted. If you incorporate open source elements into your work, please note the elements and their corresponding licenses.
  • Winners will be determined by a panel of judges from the City of Houston and the community.
  • All submissions will be anonymized before being reviewed by the judges.

Prizes:

  • There will be three winners.
  • Each winner will receive a prize of $1,000. If the winner is a team, the prize will be given to the team lead.
  • Each winner will present their concept to Mayor Turner and the City digital team.
  • Each winning concept will be displayed on houstontx.gov and winners will receive attribution and backlinks.

Terms and conditions:

  • By submitting your entry, you represent and warrant that you (and/or your team) are the original creator(s) of the work and are the sole owner(s) of the work and that the work does not infringe upon any patent, copyright, trade secret, or any other rightful claim, proprietary or intellectual property right of any third party.
  • By submitting your entry, you (and/or your team) agree and hereby do irrevocably transfer, convey, and assign to the City of Houston your (and/or your team’s) entire right, title, and interest and full ownership worldwide in and to the work submitted and to any feedback that you provide the City of Houston that is related to the work submitted or to this Houston Digital Design Challenge. You agree to cooperate with the City of Houston in executing any documents that may be required to demonstrate or establish the City of Houston’s ownership of the works submitted by you (and/or your team).
  • By submitting your entry, you (and/or your team) agree and hereby do irrevocably consent, grant permission, and authorize the City of Houston (and its agents, employees, contractors, and subcontractors) to take and use photographs or motion pictures of you (and/or your team); to produce videotapes, audiotapes, social media postings, and any other types of media productions, recordings, or publications that capture your (and/or your team’s) name, voice, image, or likeness. You understand, acknowledge, and agree that you (and/or your team) will not receive any payment from the City of Houston for this consent or from any use your (and/or your team’s) name, voice, image, or likeness and you (and/or your team) hereby do waive your right to any compensation. You (and/or your team) represent that you (and/or your team) are at least 18 years of age, or if not, that you have secured the permission of your legal guardian to consent to the above.
  • By submitting your entry, you (and/or your team) agree to and shall release the City of Houston, its agents, employees, officers, and legal representatives from all liability for injury, death, damage, or loss to persons or property sustained in connection with or incidental to performance under this Houston Digital Design Challenge. You (and/or your team) agree to and shall indemnify and hold the City, its agents, employees, officers, and legal representatives harmeless for all claims, causes of action, liabilities, fines, and expenses for injury, death, damage, or loss to persons or property sustained in connection with or incidental to the performance under this Houston Digital Design Challenge. You (and/or your team) agree and shall release and defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the City of Houston, its agents, employees, officers, and legal representatives from all claims or causes of action brought against the City of Houston by any party alleging that the City of houston’s use of any of your (and/or your team’s) submitted work, documents, or feedback you furnish to the City of Houston infringes on a patent, copyright, or trademark, or misappropriates a trade secret.
