Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 6400 Richmond Avenue

July 29, 2019 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a crash that killed two men at 6400 Richmond Avenue about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday (July 28).

The suspect, Eloy Mercado (H/m, 21), is charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and one count of intoxicated assault in the 338th State District Court.  A booking photo of Mercado is not available at this time.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.  Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Hill reported:

The suspect, Mercado, was traveling westbound at the above address at a high rate of speed when his silver Cadillac XTS struck a silver Lexus IS 250C whose driver was exiting a private drive and likely turning left to travel eastbound on Richmond.  The Lexus' driver, 31, and passenger, 30, died at the scene.  Mercado and a passenger were transported to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Further investigation led to Mercado being arrested and charged in this incident.
