Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 8000 Bellfort Avenue

December 28 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 8000 Bellfort Avenue about 9:45 a.m. last Friday (Dec. 25).

The suspect, Pedro Juarez (H/m, 39), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 180th State District Court.  A booking photo of Juarez, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.

The identity of the male victim, 24, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Warhol and Officer L. Ho reported:

Juarez was driving a white GMC Sierra and leaving a traffic light alongside a white Chevrolet Silverado, driven by the victim.  The drivers began to race one another as they traveled westbound on Bellfort Avenue.  At some point, Juarez failed to maintain a single lane at the above address, veered into the adjoining lane and struck the Chevrolet.  The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway and into a bayou.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the driver of the Chevrolet deceased.  Juarez was transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in serious condition.  He was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently charged.
